Caergath
Location: Airward edge of the Iron Mountains
Population: Approximately 100,000 people
Culture: As would be expected from a large trading city,
the people of Caergath are incredibly diverse. Though humans and dwarves seem to
dominate the populace, other races are not uncommon. There is no unique
religion or culture, save that of the guilds. Citizens generally follow
Government: The city of Caergath has no single
ruler. Each industry and trade within the city is run by a guild.
The city itself is ruled by a council of the masters of each guild.
Guildmasters are chosen based on their skill within the trade that their guild
represents and by an election of guildmembers. Elections are held every
five years to minimize corruption within the rulership of the city.
Industries/Trade: Because this city is prominent for its
trading, most every kind of industry can be found here. The city serves as
a hub for trading in the Region of Earth, therefore providing easy access for
travelers to the agricultural and mined goods common to this Region. The
goods are relatively inexpensive, making Caergath a very popular stop for anyone
passing through the Region. Its position at the edge of the Iron Mountains
makes trade of both agriculture and metals and ores very profitable.
Foreign Relations: Caergath maintains excellent relations
with both the human Airward lands and the dwarven lands Earthward. Both
peoples find Caergath an excellent means of selling their wares and products
because of its high population density, popularity to travelers and adventurers
and optimal location.
Other Information
Like other communities in the Region of Earth, Caergath is
extremely susceptible to seismic activity, especially given its proximity to the
Iron Mountains. Few structures are greater than one story tall and nearly
all buildings are made of a durable, crack resistant stone mined from the
mountains of the Region of Earth. Some of the more wealthy or more magical
members of the city even enchant their dwellings to be more durable.
Due to the heavy trade that occurs in Caergath, the city is
heavily policed by a militaristic guard that is backed by the Council of
Guildmasters. The guardsmen are very loyal to the city and the council and
thus are rarely, if ever bribed successfully. In fact, those that attempt
to bribe a guardsman usually end up in the city jail or worse.
