Iron Mountains
Location: Region of Earth, just Earthward of Caergath
Size: The Iron Mountains span for about three hundred
miles Earthward from Caergath, being 150 miles across at their widest point
Fireward to Waterward.
Weather: The Iron Mountains have generally calm
weather. Storms are rare, though rainfall is not uncommon. Winds are
almost never stronger than 20 mph. However, the Iron Mountains are one of
the most seismically active areas in the Region of Earth. Landslides and
cave-ins occur frequently. Because of this, no civilization exists above
ground within the Iron Mountain Range.
Biological Information:
The Iron Mountains are heavily populated by dwarves who tunnel
into the depths of the mountains seeking the iron ore. As the name implies
the mountains bleed iron everywhere. A dwarf by the name of Reknak
Forgefire rules the entire dwarven community in the whole of the Iron Mountains.
Few other creatures besides the dwarves reside in the caverns of
the Iron Mountains. Rats, bats, and, rarely, giant spiders, can be found
by those wandering the caves, but the dwarves try to keep these beasts cleaned
out as much as possible. Above ground, the mountains provide a suitable
habitat for what a person would expect for a temperate mountain range.
Deer, wolves, squirrels, bears, and similar animals are very, very common.
Some rumors say the mountains are also home to a few dragons, chimerae, or
similar fantastic monsters, though these rumors are as yet unproven and the
dwarves claim they have seen nothing of the type.
The dwarves that live in the Iron Mountains, called Iron
Dwarves, excel in weaponry, both creating and using arms. Young dwarven
men are required to serve in the Forge Guard, the dwarves' army, for at least
one year upon reaching their coming of age ceremony. However, both males
and females know how to fight with weapons of all types and how to forge weapons
of all types.
Iron Dwarves generally do not allow outsiders to travel through
their caves unless the outsider has a good reason to be doing so. However,
they do not hesitate to trade with other races. Caergath is a popular spot
for Iron Dwarf weapons and armor. Iron Dwarves are not overly cautious of
other races but do hold some suspicion when dealing with any kind of non-dwarf.
